Our programs engage children in awareness activities throughout the school year. During the holiday season, many people may participate in a toy drive or clothing drive. Unfortunately, these are year-round problems demanding attention. Our goal is for every "Change Agent" to have a better understanding of what they have to be thankful for and the impact they have on others that may be less fortunate.
We currently offer programs for 2nd to 5th graders. We keep class size small to ensure all "Change Agents" have a voice and feel comfortable and confident expressing opinions in the group. If Change Agents - Kids is not offered at your elementary school - please contact us to find out more information.
The benefits of actively fostering children's charitable impulses are enormous. Besides helping counter the overdeveloped "gimme" impulse, it gives kids a powerful boost in self-esteem to realize they can make a difference in someone's life. "And as corny as it sounds," says Patricia Schiff Estess, a New York City writer and the author of "Kids, Money & Values," "when you help a child help others, you are helping to create a better world.“ -CNN
According to developmental psychologist Marilyn Price Mitchell, children who perform acts of kindness experience increased wellbeing, popularity and acceptance among peers. This, in turn, leads to better classroom behaviour and higher academic achievement. -TheConversation.com
A child's imagination, when paired with experiential learning opportunities, can be a powerful tool to confront global issues in new and innovative ways. - Fortune
“People who engage in kind acts become happier over time,” says Sonja Lyubomirsky, PhD, a professor at the University of California, Riverside. Why? “When you’re kind to others, you feel good as a person—more moral, optimistic, and positive,” she says. -LinkedIn.com
No - the session dues cover expenses for activity material. You will be notified in advance of the community project and are welcome to provide donations related to the cause (i.e. canned food for a food drive, gently used books for a book drive).
Although the sessions are carefully planned out in advance – we welcome input from families on causes important to them. We are constantly adding to our library of lesson plans and are happy to incorporate causes that benefit member families in future lessons.
We have several volunteer positions and position openings. Please contact us at info@ChangeAgentsKids.org if interested in participating in these opportunities.
Our current roster of supported organzations includes Nourish Now, Pet Connect Rescue, Interfaith Works and Make a Wish. This list continues to grow.
